I’m swimming against the tide here, but I have to admit that I don’t care about Roy Grace. I read the first two books, but I found the character one dimensional, his dialogue stilted. The plots are decent, but I didn’t believe in any of the characters. So, Roy’s wife has gone missing. I couldn’t care less. Peter James has clearly done well with this series, so I’m sure he and his fans won’t care about my opinion. I think it’s a good job we all have different tastes. Otherwise, the world would be pretty boring.

I am in a very fortunate position. I took Peter’s Roy Grace books as my Specialist Subject on Mastermind. In preparation for that, I contacted him, to see whether he could help my revision etc.

As a consequence, I feel honoured to say that he has become a friend. He is truly a generous, thoughtful, witty and considerate person. I count the day I sent him an e-mail, asking whether, if I did do the books on Mastermind, he and his publisher could help, one of the most blessed days of my life.

And his wife Lara is a lovely lady too.

The books are simply outstanding. Read them – you will be blown.away! Oh, and yes, best read in order, even though they stand alone.
