Conan is one of my favorite fantasy characters. What other sword-carrying literary heroes are out there to read? Any recommendations?

I would say “Night Angel” by Brent Weeks. Personally didn’t care for Kings Dark Tidings

Drizzt the drow elf by R A Salvatore. There are 40+ plus books in total. Its an amazing series, he uses scimitars and is awesome at using them

Skilgannon uses twin swords – the Swords of Night and Day – in White Wolf by David Gemmell. Awesome book ? also Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser by Fritz Leiber is fantastic sword and sorcery fantasy

Anything by David Gemmell really. The man wrote dozens of amazing heroes. For swordsmen… Tenaka Khan, Decado, Tarantino/Dace, Skilganon, hosts of others… The author was truly one of the best.

@Sean Amazon shows several books by this author. Recommendations on where to start?

@Sean Gemmell’s first book was Legend – you could start with that altho it doesnt come first in the Drenai series chronologically lol. You could try one of his standalones – dark moon, echoes of the great song or winter warriors ?

@Rick My dad started me off with The First Chronicles of Druss the Legend. He’s not a swordsman, but if you like Conan, then you’ll probably love Druss. If not, Dark Moon is a great standalone.

Kings dark tidings, or maybe witcher, …. non full blown barbarians but they are some of my favorites as well. First law trilogy was cool too with Logen berserk raging out

I think the best written sword and sorcery is with Fafhred and the Grey Mouse- Fritz Leiber.

If you like Conan give First Law a try. Author is Joe Abercrombie, first book is The Blade Itself.
