ALL the classics! =D I’m a History major, I’ve started avoiding Historical Fiction on the basis of not wanting to confuse fact and fiction whilst studying.
Alexandre Dumas’ Three Musketeers series, his Valois series, and his Chroniques de la Régence. It’s historical fiction and classic literature put together in one nice little package. Bernard Cornwell writes amazing historical fiction as does Helen Hollick. I am fond of Maurice Druon because he wrote his Accursed Kings series. Also, you might want to try Jack Whyte’s works. His Arthurian series is set during and after the Fall of the Roman Empire, and they are full of history and I love them. Victor Hugo wrote historical fiction with Hunchback of Notre-Dame. As did the most famous name in English literature: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with his White Company and Nigel.
Historical fiction: Conn Iggulden books (Conqueror series, Emperor series, Wars of the Roses series) Empire of the Moghul series by Alex Rutherford Alexander series by Valerio Massimo Manfredi Philippa Gregory (The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels)
Heart of Darkness, a classic and very interesting story. After you have read that, watch apocalypse now.
I love both Charles Dickens and Phillippa Gregory books. Gregory has several series that you can take your pick from!
Jane Eyre… It’s beautiful and weird and beautiful again, one if my all time favorites…
ALL the classics! =D
