I love John Sandfords PREY series which blends with Vergil flowers series 40 books in all. I love love Tami Hoag Kovac and Liska series , Deer Lake series, & Oak Knoll series. And I think I like Tess Gerritsen books too but it’s early to tell
Sue Grafton’s Alphabet series, featuring Kinsey Millhone, Private Investigator….it starts with A is for Alibi; the Travis McGee series by John Macdonald: here’s a list: http://home.earthlink.net/~rufener/
Besides the ditto on Harry Dresden, I enjoyed Sherlock Holmes. I know it’s old school but still good. There is also the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries. They are fun and a pretty quick read.
@Dee you have got to read the books! They are by Kerry Greenwood. They are the same but different from the TV series. Keep your mind open and don’t try to compare.
Well I’m going to say Detective Alex Cross series by James Patterson. Alex Cross was my true introduction to James Patterson. There’s a lot in the series but each book is genuinely quick with quick short chapters.
Thanks! It combines two great things I love, the paranormal and detective. If you haven’t read the Kat and Bones series by Jeneanne Frost, it is very similar.
Elizabeth George’s Inspector Lynley, Tana French’s Dublin Murder Squad, Christopher Fowler’s Bryant and May, Lincoln and Child’s Pendergast, Peter May’s Lewis Trilogy, Sue Grafton’s Alphabet series are some of my favorites.

Anything by Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett.
I concur.
