I loved it the first time when I was young and naïve. I recently reread it and it was so full of troupes and cliches that I could not enjoy it as I had before. Like seriously 3 days “knowing” each other and it’s a forever love? ?

Personally: my mother, my fiancé and I all loved and read the series in a week or less. I know other people who think the main character is dumb and whiny, or the relationship is somehow negative or toxic. None of my family thought this way though. So its all going to depend on your life experiences and view, and interests. I say try it, you dont have to finish the book if you dont end up liking it.

I read them before they were films, in fact I’d pre-ordered breaking dawn!

yes, I preordered it and read it the day it came out. I do t know if my expectations were to high as I really love The Host, but I was really disappointed ?

If you can separate yourself from the story, it’s good.
I became severely depressed after reading them, and had a major crisis of faith as well after reading them.

It’s a guilty pleasure type of series. It reminds me a lot of The Selection, in the sense that I’ve read better but I still enjoy it even though it can be so predictable and cheesey.

I loved it. It is a really great love story. If I would have the chance to read it for the first time now, it might be hard to keep all the negativity out of my head about it, but I’m sure I would still appreciate the love story.

I read them all. I was excited for vampire fiction that took place in my state. Read all of them and my husband still remembers my reaction when I finished them. “What a horrible waste of time!” I hated it! Story was poorly written. I lost count of how many times I kept rolling my eyes at what was going on. I could go on but I won’t.
With that said, there is something for everyone. This was not for me by any means. But who’s to say it’s not for you? There’s opinions positive and negative for all books. If you’re interested, go ahead and give it a try. You’ll never really know until you try!

Im sorry but vampires dont glisten in the sunlight.

Crystal

I’m not sure how to react to this. Love it or laugh at it lol. My husband remembers that part. He’s not a vampire fan but I made him sit there while I read that part to him.

2
Courtney

This comment drives me insane. It is make believe! People don’t turn into giant dogs either…. magic isn’t real but you don’t see people attacking HP for having magic.

4
TianaQuestion author

I mean how would you know if vampires glistened in the sunlight. ?? its always possible, they are fictional :3

2
Crystal

Doesn’t mean everyone has to like it. I read vampire fiction for a long time before I picked up this series. When I came across that i read it a few times to make sure i was reading right. My response was “well, that’s an interesting spin”. I was very unenthused.

1
Courtney

No, not everyone has to like it but it drives me insane that this one point is what everyone decides to use to say this serious is awful or whatever. There are plenty of different magic systems and dragons and hobbits and elves and whatever. I just don’t understand how people think that vampires can only be one thing, one set of rules.
I’m probably not explaining myself very well lol. Does that make sense?

2
Tara

I wish I could sparkle in the sun. Vampires aren’t real so they can be and do anything they want.

4
Crystal

I understand what you are saying. But if someone wants to use this one point as an example of how they feel its bad instead of getting into all the details, meh, i see no problem. I say the same thing. I’m pretty particular about my vampires I like. If someone asks me to expand on it, i will. Some people enjoyed this aspect of the story, others did not. But to me it’s a simple way to say i don’t like it and this is an example why in one quick go.

I loved them when I first read them (about 15 years old) but I have re-read them a couple of times and although I don’t although I don’t enjoy them as much they are pretty good. Bella is a bit annoying to me now, but I still love all of the other characters, especially Carlisle ?

The movies are a completely different experience but cool in their own right. First time I read book two my best friend had,a seriously broken heart, I was hurtling for her, and book two said what I felt she was feeling. But once I wasn’t feeling that anymore it was a bit hard to connect with that bit.

-the books are great if you know what you’re getting into. Bella is not a badass lead character she is just a human in a world with mosters and sometimes it’s ok to be weak. Most humans are. If you like a certain type of character maybe these books are not for you. I think the series missed some amazing plots like developing more the backstories of the characters (Alice fore example, she could have easily had a series of her own with the life she’s had) and the vamipre universe itself could have been expended. Lots of potential but it is what it is. But I have to admit what she did with Jacob was just wrong, that whole triangle sucked.

Really well put! I agree. With the spinoffs I think SM got burnt out by all the attention and also working on the movies she said she couldn’t help seeing the actors instead of her characters.

I bought the box set of all 4, read the first one, then gave the box set to a friend. There were typos and grammatical errors, it was a bit cheesy writing for my taste. Didn’t help that I was also watching videos by Alex Day on YouTube aa he read the first book.
