It’s hard to zero in on a recommendation without understanding more about the purpose behind your request. Are you primarily wanting to understand brain structure and neurobiology, or how our mind works? Daniel J. Siegel has written quite a few books on the subject, mostly geared to the developing mind (children and adolescents), and understanding how to use that information to optimize well-being. The Mindful Brain might be a good general one to consider. His writing on the subject is accessible to the layperson, and offers a good balance between emerging information from neurobiology, and distinguishing between the brain and the mind, and psychological implications of that.

Not sure if you’re looking for fiction or non-fiction but Symphony in the Brain explained to me a lot of how the brain works.
