The Dark Tower series (starting with The Gunslinger)
The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon

Others which might be ok (just depends on your son really)

Any of them ,I loved them from quite an early age the first one I read was either misery or Carrie .

The Talisman (co written with Peter Straub) is fab. Age story of good v evil. The Stand, 11.22.63, The Green Mile, Dark Tower Series. Any Stephen King really. Personally I’m not into the horror ones.
