I loved both Angels and Demons and Inferno by Dan Brown. I know they’re older but they were both great!!

As an Italian myself, I tend to focus on Italian novels: the many books by Andrea Camilleri are set in beautiful Sicily and make you fall in love with the characters (as well as the food)
