I found this book very scary. I remember while reading it in bed a long time ago my black cat suddenly jumped up and stared at me. Actually shook me up for a while.
Green eggs and ham. Spoiler: it is about this creature that doesn’t like this disgusting food but this other guy keeps trying to stick it down his throat. Think of a not so graphic human centipede.
Oh lord: IT by Stephen King. Or ANYTHING just about by King: The Stand, Pet Semetary, ‘Salem’s Lot, Needful Things, The Tommyknockers are all in the horror realm. Not sure if Anne Rice should be more paranormal or horror, but The Witching Hour or the Mummy are good books to start with.
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. And I remember that while I was reading The Exorcist, when I was home alone washing dishes with my back to the door, I was afraid to turn around.
I have two. Carrie by Stephen King, and the second, an American classic The Scarlet Letter by Hawthorne. Oh, one more, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Oh, and one more….(just kidding)
I Remember You by Yrsa Siggursdottir
Thank you!
“Bird Box” by Josh Malerman
Thank you!!!
Anything by Clive Barker. ?
I loved Weaveworld.
Yea….and The Books of Blood, Rawhead Rex, etc etc etc…. love his work.
I found him same time as King…..and he just resonated better to me than King
I’ve heard of people who are genuinely affected by the book The Exorcist. It’s supposed to be loosely based on a true story.

For the first time and read the exorcist. Scared the stuffing out of me

Definitely “The Exorcist” by William Peter Blatty.
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. And I remember that while I was reading The Exorcist, when I was home alone washing dishes with my back to the door, I was afraid to turn around.
We Have Always Lived in the Castle is another good one by Shirley Jackson! Not “horror” per say, but incredibly creepy!
Yes, Poe also.
