Oh, I know Ms. Bly. I wanted to be her, or the next her really. Still do. I was just wondering if it was more of a thesis, Op-ed, or enhanced (fictional) recount of her experience.
I don’t know but I remember when we were kids and we were eves dropping on the adults to get the family gossip, my Mom would call us Nellie Bly and send us outside.
I never promised yiu a rose garden has been one of my all time favorites for probably 40 years. Also, Autobiography of a Schizophrenic Girl. Not sure of the author
firstlife. it’s a series (everlife) by gena showalter. it’s a about a girl who was locked into and asylum by her parents because she wouldn’t sign with an everlife (she had 2 choices).
When New York’s 120-plus-year-old mental institution Willard State Hospital was closed down in 1995, New York Museum curator Craig Williams found a forgotten attic filled with suitcases belonging to former inmates. This is a great read and very heart touching…and sad to read how people were treated because they were different or troubled.
@Judith unfortunately when they closed our Mental institution here in Indiana, all the poor subjects inside are now on our streets. When I was on the Police Department we could take a suspected mental person in under what was called a 10-96, and they were evaluated and held for 96 hours. Now it’s bedlam.??
Because of this thread, I just bought a paperback copy of I Never Promised You A Rose Garden for 25¢ at library book store. I had not realized it was about mental illness. Thanks.

It was very interesting, she got herself committed to an asylum in New York, and was systematically abused.???
Ten Days in A Mad House by Nellie Boy. She got herself admitted to an insane Institution to do expose’ for her newspaper.
@Judith unfortunately when they closed our Mental institution here in Indiana, all the poor subjects inside are now on our streets. Sad the mentally I’ll deserve better.
