Basically, Jane had a very rough childhood–abused by family (she was an orphan and taken in by her aunt, but they did not treat her well at all) She went to a boarding school and later became a teacher. She was then hired as a governess by a wealthy man who had taken in a young girl (as charity). They start to fall in love, but some of his secrets are revealed. If I go much further I’ll spoil it for you. 😉 But it has some mystery, some romance (albeit slightly tragic), and some of that classic romanticism style of writing, full of symbolism and poetic language. Very rich reading.
Girl lives with terrible relatives, then goes to a terrible school. Then she gets a job working for a hottie with a secret. Secret comes out and she can’t deal with it until she does some soul searching.
If you have a tablet or kindle app on your phone, you can download a sample, or google for a free online version of Jane Eyre. There are even a few sites where can get like a chapter a day sent to you in email.
it’s a classic, absolutely must read. I just read Wide Sargasso Sea which gives a bit of a different perspective on it-its a prequel that tells the story of a character in the book(I can’t really explain it differently without spoilers)
Young girl has crappy life. Then grows up and takes crappy job where she meets a man with whom “it’s complicated”. I don’t mean to make it sound like a bad book….it is definitely a classic and worth reading!
I would say listen to the audiobook instead. There’s a free one through Librovox, I believe it’s called. The book is slow and overrated in my opinion ??♀️
Well yes and no. It is definitely a book you will either love or hate. I read it in High School English class my Senior year 17 years ago. I still can’t get over the 5 page description of a red room. But I think you should give it ago. Throw a classic into your reading once and a while.
I thoroughly recommend reading it – try to avoid spoilers if you can because there some nice twists in it. It’s a great book, and the character of Jane Eyre is such an inspiration, seems timid and weak at first but you see her develop throughout the novel and the woman she has become at the end is very different from the quite mouse of a girl she is at the beginning. Actually jealous of anyone reading it for the first time – enjoy 🙂
Certainly it is ,, I adore this novel I read it more than twice and i am never bored of it ….it is worthy reading I won’t give you a summary because the pleasure of reading it and exploring its strong and moral themes is inseparable …☺enjoy it
One of my faves…. worth it.
One of my favorites as well. Love that story!

“Hottie with a secret”. I like that description of Rochester!
It is worth reading. Several times. Classic Victorian orphan learns that the best model for female empowerment is to marry a cripple.
Seriously, one of the. Eat books I have ever read. Hard to summarize without giving it away. Sorry!
I havent read it yet..ive had it for years and i cant seem to pick it up
YES! I love this book. The first few chapters are a little slow but well worth the read.
The movie is pretty great, too. 😉

Wonderful reading, couldn’t put it down!!!!
Loved it and read it at the age of 12.

It is a good read and it’s my favorite classic.
The classics, such as “Jane Eyre,” are always worth reading.
Great book loved it !
Amazing love story, but also an amazing character portrayal of a woman who takes love on her own terms or not at all.
That is the book that I will read more than once. I’ve read it twice already.
