Any of Henning Mankell’s Kurt Wallander series: The Fifth Woman, The White Lioness (a political thriller about an assassination), The Firewall if you like techno thrillers, The Dogs of Riga. He is a master storyteller, Swedish, who died last year. I have all his books and have read them more than once.
He’s getting pretty far out there, a little too gruesome. But his early work was fantastic, Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider. I love the Alex Cross series and the Women’s Murder Club, set in SF where I;m going tomorrow. Maybe I’ll bump into Det. Lindsay Boxer, haha.
The agent Pendergast series by Lincoln/Child is good. Tana French, Gillian Flynn (although I didn’t like Gone Girl)…I’ll let you know if I think of more.
Yes, I’m a broken record, but William Lashner is just super. The Victor Carl Series, most of it. His stand alones–some not my cuppa, others like Barkeep, The Reckoning, Bagman — thrillers de luxe.
try Robert Harris, he is similar to Dan Brown
Michael Gruber, Tropic of Night.
Do you want semi-historical suspense/thrillers or do you like murder mystery suspense/thrillers?
Important question! So many varieties 🙂
Mystery & fantasy are my favorites..
But never historic
The agent Pendergast series has a definite fantasy/supernatural spin to it.
Harlan Coben is great for mystery-type thrillers.
I love him too but sometimes he can be hit or miss.

If you like suspense/mystery try the Pendergast series (read them in order) by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs.
I’ve read those, they get a bit creepy down in the bayou.
