The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, by Bill Bryson. You will laugh out loud and you will identify with his adventures no matter where you grew up. We are also 70 year olds and we listened on a ten hour drive to Montana.

The Cat Who books, Miss Julia series or The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency Series. If they have a good sense of humor and like some hysterical fantasy, try the Discworld Series.

I listened to, “The Orchardist” in the car. It is a FABULOUS story and it’s great as an audiobook! The narrator’s voice was awesome as well

Not fiction, but I really enjoyed listening to Bill Bryson’s One Summer. It’s longer than 10 hours, but it’s fascinating and he reads it himself.

Bill Bryson’s “In a Sunburned Country” about Australia is one of my favorites, laughed so often.

1
Suzanne

@Margaret I haven’t read that one, thanks for the tip!

1
Margaret

@Suzanne Here’s one quote from that book for you. ““But don’t worry,” she continued. “Most snakes don’t want to hurt you. If you’re out in the bush and a snake comes along, just stop dead and let it slide over your shoes.”
This, I decided, was the least-likely-to-be-followed advice I have ever been given.”
― Bill Bryson, In a Sunburned Country

@Margaret thank you for the laugh!!

I love riding the Trace! Always drove on part of it when going to visit grandparents in Mississippi. My dream is to drive it from beginning to end and stop at every marker.

1
Pat

We stopped at almost every pullout. Nevada Barr wrote two murder mysteries that take place on the Trace. I read one before the trip. So cool to stop and explore the locations important in the book!

I’ll have to look for those books.

“The Eye of the Needle” by Ken Follett is a WWII story of a spy who infiltrates Great Britain. There are some pretty intense scenes, but I loved it. “Blizzard” is another good book by Follett. He is a master of suspense.
