The bad seed
I think a new tv movie is coming out soon – on Lifetime?
Was just going to suggest this. A movie did come out.
3 movies total! The original Bad Seed plays the shrink in the Rob Lowe version
@KC cool!
@KC Don’t remember a shrink in the original, but I am sure they updated it. Remember Patty McCormack though. So evil. Actually got to meet her once or twice.
@Janet No, the original Bad Seed, Patty, plays the shrink in the Rob Lowe version. She even says something like, “You remind me of myself.” ?
I read The Bad Seed years ago and it came to my mind immediately when I saw your question. I also saw the Patty McCormack movie. The author of the book is William March. It was good and scary! https://www.amazon.com/William-March-Bad-Seed-29/dp/B00HTK34R0
Never read the book, but saw the movie which totally blew my mind with fright and made me hate that I got called that!
Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
Yes, so good!
Lord of the Flies, Children of the Corn, Pet Sematry.
Pet Sematary is my all time favourite
If you want to try a classic, try The Bad Seed by William March. An 8 year old kid who also kills to get her way. It was written sometime in the 50s.
Wow, I’ll look that one up and add it. Thank you ??

Following
I agree, The Bad Seed. I recently saw a remake of the original movie. It was just OK. The book (of course!) has a much creepier impact. The original movie was better also, especially due to the amazing acting of Tom Ewell and A very young Patty McCormack.
The Omen
@KC been wanting to read this but keep forgetting.
It’s great! I keep meaning to reread it as well
@KC my mom wouldn’t let me read it or watch the movies when they were popular. Lol now I do what I want
@KC oh yes, this is very creepy!
@Kathy I wanted to read The Silence of the Lambs when my mom was reading it. I was like 11 or so. She said she’d have to cut out all of the bad words first. She never did and I finally read it 20 years later. It would’ve been a lot of cutting ??
@KC lol
Baby Teeth
Children of the Corn
The Playground, The Small Assassin, The Veldt.
All short stories by Ray Bradbury.
Check into true crime books
Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage
The Good Son. I don’t know if it’s a book, but probably is.
Yes!
Children of the Corn-but without looking it up I don’t remember the author.
Everyone else said Stephen King.
Stephen king
The Other by Thomas Tryon is a good one. Children of the Corn, a short story by Stephen King. The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. The Bad Seed by William March.
I’m reading the Other next. Is it good?
@Danielle I liked it a lot. I read it a long time ago and I think it’s time for a re-read.
The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing
The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham — the book the movie Children of the Damned is based on.
The Last of Us – Rob Ewing. Five children remain on a Scottish island in a postapocolyptic future. More Lord of the Flies creepy than outright horror, but just rereading the first paragraph on my blog when I went to find the title reminded me of how uneasy it made me.
The Exorcist, by Blatty
The Bad Seed (an oldie but a goodie)
Gently with the Innocents by Alan Hunter
Not horror, but Defending Jacob was good!
Little Star! Freaking horrific!

See lots of recommendations for Baby Teeth. Question from a UK resident: is that the same book as Bad Apple in UK?!
I was wondering this too because I couldn’t find it anywhere!
I Googled it, and it is the same book. It was just released under a different name in the UK.
That’s what I suspected! Thank you!

Is Children of the Corn a book, besides being a movie?
@Terrel yes it started off as a book.
@Kay thank you! ??
@Terrel I’m trying to find the book for you I read about it recently so that why I answered if your with goodreads Stephen kings version is on there but I’m trying to find the other one I was reading about.
Children of the Corn is one of the stories in Stephen King’s anthology called Night Shift.
@Kay —I’ll check on Goodreads and see if my local bookstore and library have it. I’m not in a hurry to read it, but it’s fun to read a scary book around Halloween; and then I go back to my non scary reading! ?☺️
@Caroline thank you!
@Terrel you’re welcome. ?
The Bad Seed
No, no, no
Children of the corn….lord of the flies
