I started The Art of Racing in the Rain…but quit. I quit reading dog books, long ago…because they all make me cry. I broke my rule and read Marley and Me …loved it…loved his writing, but also decided…no more.
I started “Racing” because a friend recommended it. But when it started with the older dog, I put it down. ? Still have it, but don’t think I can do it. I can read murder and mayhem all day, but dog books are hell.

0
Bev

I understand you’re feelings about it, trust me though, it’s a great book. Give it another try.

2
Cathy

I kept it, because I want to read it…my friend that recommended it has passed …and I’d really like too. We will see. Will I need a whole box of tissues?

Yes, but you’ll be so glad you read it.

Heart Earth by Ivan Doig, not so much for the subject matter, but for the authors way with words, some poetry will as well.

1
Reply
David

Gonna give ole Doig a whirl . . I have this novel, never read it. I like how you describe the poetry . . . Richard Russo’s end of novel Empire Falls is very poetic and many parts of “Snow on the Cedars” by David Guterson is very poetic. If poetry doesn’t make you cry . . . watch.
