Firefly Lane and Fly Away by Kristin Hannah. Firefly Lane is book 1 and Fly Away is the sequel.

“The power of NOW” is a great self help book for just about anything you face in life. Also found reading the short stories in a couple of different “Chicken Noodle Soup for the Soul” books to be helpful. It was easier to focus on the short stories rather than a whole book.

@Erin yes I love that one. Also the Untethered Soul and anything Pema Chodron!
Yeah I cant focus on anything.

I lost a friend at the same age to a brain tumour. So sorry. Hope you find a book that brings you some comfort.

@Sandra thank you. I would not wish this pain on anyone. I am so sorry you felt it too.

People tend to reel off the same platitudes at times like this. They mean well but I don’t think anyone can say anything that really helps. Take care of yourself and take time to grieve. xx

@Sandra that is true. The only thing that irritates me is people who have told me he would want me to go back to real life. Like, no. I don’t care what he wants. I need to be a mess.

Sorry to hear!
Please read The year of magical thinking. It’s Joan Didion telling about the sudden death of her husband of 20+years… it will do you good! X

So sorry…worse when it’s sudden and unexpected. Grief is the most painful thing..it does get easier over time but it never leaves you. Hope you find some comfort in books and others who have been through it, and give yourself time to heal. Maybe something magical like ‘The Night Circus’. Take care x

I’m so sorry for your loss x I lost my beautiful younger sister in the same way almost 2 years ago…It’s so unbearably sad x I took comfort in reading poetry as I found it hard to concentrate on books. Also the things she loved to read, Elizabeth Berg especially x

I am so very sorry for your loss. I’ve never read any, but I understand Joan Didion writes on this – a colleague loves her stuff and has recommended it. I hope you find something to help you bear your grief.

That is so tough. My heart hurts for you. While listening to the Me Before You trilogy by Jojo Moyes I thought it would be a good series to listen to by those who have suffered loss. I suggest reading all 3 but the second one deals alot with grief. If you read or listened to it alone you might not fully get the context.
