When a true crime book ends BEFORE the murder trial. No fault to the authors as it’s because of the publishers but OMG I hate that!!

Dog eared pages.

When my children rip or doodle pages in my books. Damn toddlers. It’s happened to at least one book when each kid has been a toddler.

Authors talking politics on their author pages. Particularly when they then begin silencing differing opinions. (Literally just had that happen with one author.)

When people murder books! Tearing out pages, dog ear, break the spine, cross out words, spilled liquid on the pages, or the ring of someone using a book as a coaster.

Typos and mistakes that prove the ignorance of the author (maybe ignorance is too harsh – could be laziness in getting it right).

I have an enormous library but am very persnickety about the condition. Every book has to be mint condition. No creases, no tears or rips, no stains, no bent spines.

When a story just stops with no ending. It’s almost as if the author just says “okay, done”.

Dog ears, broken spines, people damaging or not returning book, cover change mid series, height difference within a series, format change (paperback to mass market paperback ) in a series, people writing in books :0

AND when a character tries to explain something (very impoertant!!) but always gets interrupted by a snappy character. I worry that’s just poor writing for increasing suspense……….. ?

“Adaptations from TV or film on cover” – YES!!!

I hate it when, what I consider to be, a miscast actor in a screen adaptation lodges in my head and I struggle to erase them when I’m reading the book. Case in point? Sean Bean as Richard Sharp.

Spelling errors, bent pages, getting a book from the library, where someone ate/drank, while reading it.

When an author “phones in” the ending. I’m waiting, reading and thinking ? that they just lost interest in the story themselves

When an author has passed away and yet still manages to write from the grave with help from a living person. And also when a series changes authors mid series. As a cataloger, I find both of these extremely annoying.

People that won’t shut up while I’m trying to read, spelling errors, grammar errors, when multiple words are put in with no spaces between each word at the start of a chapter (the book I’m reading, this has happened at the start of every chapter so far) 🙁

Mildew/mold specks and typos. Oh, and book covers and titles that try to mimic previous best sellers – it feels like a tacky marketing strategy!

1

Dodi

Maybe I’m silly…I don’t care too much whether a book has dog-eared pages, writing/highlighting, stains, book cover issues, etc. As long as the book is mostly clean. I don’t like typos, but it happens. The biggest issue I have is stickers & labels on the outside that are extremely difficult to remove! And when a child has scribbled within! Sometimes I like it when a book is well used – it often means the book has been well loved by many!

Different books with nearly identical titles and/or cover picture as if one author’s publisher couldn’t come up with an equally good but different title and cover picture.
