I was just thinking about sweet valley the other day lol.I remember my friend on the bus way back when would read them as I read fear street, and I realized that I never did read them like I planned??
The Sweet Valley books are great. Each book always had a lesson to be learned and almost every book dealt with a real life issue. It didn’t shy away from controversial issues either.
Great book series by Susan Kotch. I highly recommend it!

I know it’s a throwback but I recommend the Sweet Valley Twins/Sweet Valley High series. Also the Babysitters Club by Ann M. Martin.

Yes, LOVED this series!!
If you can’t get your hands on the physical books, both series are available as eBooks.
If the Mates, Dates series goes over well, you might also try the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison
