“Ali: A Life” by Jonathan Eig. So good. It’s not even a year old yet. Fabulous book.

Loved his book about Al Capone. I read it bc I was taking a class from him a few years ago. Good class.

1
Mitchell

@Bonnie Really? I’ll have to add it. He writes well!

1
Bonnie

@Mitchell he’s very good, I never would have read a book about Al Capone but I wanted to read something he had written before the class and it was great. He also wrote a book about the birth control pill which was good too.

“League of Denial: The NFL, Concussions and the Battle for Truth” by Mark Fainaru-Wada is good too.

This is on my tbr list! CTE interests me more than it should.

1
Mitchell

Me too. It’s a bit dated, but still covers the cover up etc. Movie with Will Smith draws off a lot of the material I believe.

Samantha

Concussion is the movie. But the movie is based on the book “concussion” by Jeanne Marie Laskas. Also on my tbr list! I’m a forensic psychology major and CTE and other traumatic brain injuries have been the focus of many papers I have written. ?

1
Mitchell

lol, ok. I stand corrected. Thank you. Heavy and important stuff! Good luck on your major.

Samantha

Thank you! If all goes well, I will have my BA in October.

1

I am surprised you have time to read leisurely with that major.

Blindside by Michael Lewis…non fiction. Moneyball was also good (although I found all the baseball statistics a bit much).

The St Louis browns one might be interesting because they were one of the worst draws in all of baseball they said if you went their your career was gonna die.

1
Gail

There is also a new documentary about the St. Louis Browns on PBS.

I’m Still Standing by Fabrice Mwamba. The incredible autobiography of an English premier league footballer who had an heart attack and died during an FA Cup semi final match. He was down for 76 minutes and an incredible medical team bought him back and he survived. This book is his life story, it’s amazing

Flatbellies is wonderful! It’s a coming of age story about some boys who are on a golf team. My husband and I read it over 15 years ago, but we both LOVED it!
