I only read the Hobbit, and honestly I didn’t get the big deal. But then, that’s probably because I’m not a fan of books that reserve whole pages to describing people walking around, and doing nothing else.
It definitely wasn’t my thing. Way too much description and not enough action. Weird names for things that got me very confused. I probably have a short attention span and that has something to do with it. You should still try. You might love it.
Loved them. Read them many times.
The chapter where they fall asleep by the trees and the trees try to drag them into themselves.. very early in the first book. Was the hardest chapter for me and I almost didn’t finish the Fellowship of the rings because of it. However my brother wouldn’t take me to the movie unless I read the book so I skipped that chapter and finished the book. It brought me back to reading in the end. I suggest reading it because of all the backgrounds of other characters you miss out on in the movies.

I’ve never read them but I’ve seen the movies a few times and read The Hobbit, and both are so great that it seems like a must to read this series as well!

I got the box set for Briana I believe for Christmas? some years ago ! The first three & have the others too now but I think ? im still collecting ! Before we moved from Central Texas with my ex boyfriend a toy store in the mall went out of business & everything Lord of the Rings was discounted so that Christmas was mainly all Lord of the Rings lol !!!! My favorite is the one with Smaug lol !

Just make sure you have the footnotes. I started reading Fellowship of the Ring and discovered that the footnotes for all 3 books in that that edition were all in the Return of the King.
