I don’t think the babysitters club count as novels

0
Rachel

@Netanya why not? not being rude just curious? the ones i read were chapter books.

2
Netanya

I don’t know i guess I don’t equate chapter book with novel. Wonder what the definition is.

I’m not too sure why you would even question that. ?

Then I guess they were probably my first too!

The definition says “…with some degree of realism.” You don’t get a bunch of preteen girls hanging out to that extent without a constant bitchfest going on. Tales from the Faraway Tree is more realistic than that.?

Cathie

Hard question. I honestly don’t know. Once I learned to read, i devoured everything. Maybe GONE WITH THE WIND?

Harry Potter … I got the first 4 books as a Christmas present ( I was in 4th grade) I was really confused at why my aunt would gift them to me since I wasn’t really a reader. It wasn’t until that summer I finally read them, I fell in love with reading

I read Harold Robbins, The Carpet Baggers when I was about 8 years old. It was my Dads, I’m sure he thought most of it would go over my head. Next up was Mrs Harrods Young Friends, every kid in my neighborhood read it. We kept it hidden in the knot of a tree. Nothing went over my head after that.

Oops, it was Twig when I was six. It’s funny because in Sue Grafton’s book, Kinsey Millhone refers to reading Twig as a child and developing a love of small spaces because of it and I did the same thing. I still have it.
