As someone who is on the fence about them, what is everyone’s feelings on love triangles? And why?

There are times they are done really well and I’m ok with that. But most often they annoy me as they just seem to be thrown in there to add drama and not because it makes sense for the characters or plot.
I hate them. It’s mostly due to two reasons: I can always tell who the MC is going to end up with and b/c I hate how indecisive it is. All the back and forth bugs me.
I have started to like when the triangle becomes a tried tho. Or maybe when the love interests fall for each other instead sort of like in The Love Interest. (Although I didn’t like that book that much. Wish it was written better.)
There has to be a valid reason and some sort of original angle. I’m sick of love triangles just for the sake of having a love triangle.
Guilty. I still get into them but I don’t need them drawn out for the whole series. I have a love triangle in my Uncaged Series books, but it fits the theme and I come to a resolution by the end of book two.
Oh. My. Gosh. YES! Triangles that are drawn out throughout most or all of the series.? If I had to read about a love triangle I would rather it be resolved quickly.
I think they are overdone but if the book has a love triangle that is original and something i havent seen a 100 times before then i dont mind them.
For example one of my series has a triangle but her feelings for one of the guys isnt real its due to a curse.
I like them when they show the MC’s progression. ACOTAR and Shatter Me did them well because they showed how the FMC matured over the course of the series.
Triangles like Twilight KILL me. There was no purpose for Jacob other than to be annoying. No one actually thought Bella was going to pick him. Bella never thought she was going to pick him. As a friend, he did a lot for the story. As a “potential” love interest, he was just annoying.
In general, though, I just avoid them if possible.
Depends on how they’re done. I’m not usually a huge fan, but it doesn’t stop me from reading a book if I’m interested in the plot, etc.
Depends how its done. For me, if it is drawn out over the series i hate it. If the characters all have their own perdonalities and arent bland and add their own depth and make the relationships dif, its interesting. If they are all bland and mirror images of each other personality wise it sucks. Very rarely are love triangles done well to the point where i am genuinely invested and wanna know who they end up with bc i srsly cant figure it out up front. Ive read so few of these good love triangle stories i dont even know any titles off the top of my head to list out as an example… ?
I only like it if the other guy ends up with someone else eventually.
I hate love triangles. If there are three people with some budding feelings and that gets sorted out, that’s cool, it happens. If things progress beyond that then you have at least one character who is cruelly only thinking themselves and I don’t want to spend time with someone like that -which is what I am doing when I read their story.
You have a really good point with this. Some love triangles can portray the MC as very selfish and inconsiderate of the others stuck in the love triangle, which does not endear the reader to the MC.
Depends on the triangle lol. Sometimes it works sometimes it seems thrown in for no reason and sometimes I’m super emotionally invested.
I love them because the more cute dudes hanging around the better. But I like her to pick the one I would have chosen and not to go rogue.
I don’t mind them so much. I know some people hate them with the fire of a thousand suns, but to me it’s just part of the story ??♀️??♀️
