Read. Many people exaggerate about how fast the read. An average person reads 300 words per minute. No one reads faster than 400. Reading each day will quickly bring you up.

You can also practice speed reading , but the cost is a lack of absorption of the material.

Speed reading is not merely “reading faster,” it is about mastering the literature faster, which does not need to involve reading materials word-for-word to comprehend ideas and does not even need to include reading quickly. Reading faster can lead to lower memory retention, however strategically reviewing key information and repetitively broadening the focus to areas of interest can enhance understanding and memory retention more efficiently and effectively than simply reading word-for-word. I manly read nonfiction and tend not to use this strategy for fiction. This book can help: http://a.co/8GDwNxN

For me the trick is to be a slow careful reader. Why rush? You miss the telling metaphor, the intricate imagery, the narrative strategies and the way in which the form informs the content

Isn’t life fast enough as it is, why a simple leisurely read should be fast too?

Now I am not a speedy reader, I have devoured a book and then gone back to savor the pages. I have read a section three times in a book so that I can savor the atmosphere, shock, surprise of what happened.

I have been reading since I was 5….I am now 52. I even took a speed reading course in college, and it still takes me AT LEAST a week to read a book. I enjoy reading slow and absorbing EVERY SINGLE word into my brain. So, no need to rush, just sit back and ENJOY!!!

They do have speed reading courses. 🙂 I read faster than most people but admit that if they are more complex ideas (I.e. genome sequencing, etc), I can lose some comprehension. I make myself slow down for that.

Why do you need to read fast in the first place? Just enjoy the ? by taking your time you will enjoy the book then

Selective reading? Picking out the words that stand out the most? I dunno. That’s like watching the movie without listening to the dialogue.
