Root of Evil about the Hodel family and the black dahlia.

@Katie I just finished Red Rose, Black Dahlia. I had to read something on the subject that got the bad taste of Hodel’s son’s reaching ass theory on his dad. Idk….maybe it was bad editing, but he seemed desperate to pin it on his dad.

Katie

I haven’t read the book. But the podcast was excellent. It talked about the show that was on tnt about fauna hodel. And really didn’t talk about Elizabeth short too much but mostly about how fucked up george and Tamar were towards their kids.

0
Kera

@Katie that one was good. I’ll have to check out the podcast. That family had a really strange history. Not to mention the creepy house too!!!

0
Katie

Definitely. There’s one episode of the podcast that talks about Steve’s book…but the rest is fauna’s children and brothers talking about life with George/Tamar.

Kera

I think that might be the next one I check out. Thanks!!

I don’t really listen to podcasts, but I just finished reading Cruel Sacrifice by Aphrodite Jones and it was extremely intriguing as well as a tad terrifying. It was my first true crime novel and I wouldn’t say no to additional suggestions.

@Brittany I thought poscasts were lame until I discovered the Atlanta Monster, I think they’re great for when I’m getting ready in the mornings.

0
Brittany

@Kera It’s not so much that I think they are lame, it’s just that I have a tendency to tune them out, my own thoughts always seem to be louder than whatever I’m listening to.

Books: The Stranger Beside Me, The People Who Eat Darkness, Small Sacrifices, The Real Lolita, Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil.

And the two books by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshakker. John is the detective on whom Netflix’s Mind hunter is based. The first book may be called Mind hunter, I can’t recall. The second is Journey Into Darkness. Both are incredibly graphic/made me nauseous, but they’re good.

My Favorite Murder is a fun podcast and the hosts just put out a book called Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered! I haven’t read it yet but I’m excited to. The book I’ll Be Gone in the Dark is a really great true crime book about the golden state killer.

I’m from GA and we have this guy from here who has done two podcasts on crimes that have been HUGE here. His first, Up and Vanished helped to shake out information and resulted in the arrest of both culprits, and his second Atlanta Monster on the Atlanta Child Murders helped get the investigation into the murders reopened!!!! They were great podcasts. He also has a second season of Atlanta Monster but this one is about the Zodiac killer, not in Atl I know, but all three of those are great. I’m also currently listening to 5 Roses another local unsolved mystery!!
