I have been reading it for the past several months. It is a good book but does not « hold » me enough to finish it. It will be my « to be finished » book of 2019…. it is not 1984, but good enough, I guess ?
@Natalia its great. It does split opinions though. It’s the kind of book you will love or hate. I loved it and have pretty much read everything I can get my hands on by McCarthy since. Just a heads up though , the road is pretty bleak and dark,
Natalia Bourenane It was pretty good. I found it interesting, well written, even a bit humorous but I think I might reread it. I still felt it was missing something or I was ? 3/5 rating for me
@Sean I was afraid of this ?. The book is full of Soviet references and hints but without lengthy explanations it does not mean anything, I guess and when you explain the joke, it is not funny any more… ;-(
Yeah. It’s pretty good. One thing you might want to consider–and it’s spoiler free–is the issue of vowels and consonants (which are important to the plot). Just reminding you (i.e., as you probably already know) there are more vowels in Russian than in English.
I love Margaret Atwood’s the Handmaid’s tale and Oryx and Crake. That said, Atwood recommends reading We. I have had it on my TBR list for a long time but I can’t seem to find it anywhere in print

@Natalia thanks , 1984 is my 1st or possibly 2nd favourite dystopian read.
Sean Gallagher now I am curious, what is possibly better than 1984?
@Natalia It’s just depending on my mood ? but the other one I love is the road by cormac McCarthy.
@Sean thanx, i got too much dystopian last months, but I will put Road on my list.

@Sean thanx for heads up. I will keep it for dark moods days ?
Looks like you are aggressively exploring Russian literature ?
@Natalia I just read heart of the dog last night and a little of the master and magarita tonight but I didn’t honestly know Zamyatin was Russian ?
@Sean So what do you think about Heart of the Dog?

@Natalia maybe that’s what it is. I can’t put my finger on it. Still liked it just not one of my favourite pieces of Russian lit.

@Don how did I not that ? ?

I have read it but can’t remember a thing about it….read Moscow 2042 about the same time, which was better.
It’s been on my Kindle for years, but I haven’t gotten to it yet!
