The movie does not resemble the book. I was disappointed. I feel like it warped into a vehicle for Kate Winslet. Please don’t misunderstand me. I love her. But I don’t understand the changes they made for the movie.

Movie for me was a let down and hardly has any parallels to book. Book is awesome! All of Charles Martins books are wonderful.

Thank you. I was confused at times. It was a compelling survival movie but it missed every point I loved in the book. The coffee, returning Walter’s dog, the moose, the whole story about his wife and twins.

@Mary And the movie really downplayed her injuries. That really depleted the tone of the story

Yes, because he saved her because he had failed to save his wife and it was his redemption.

What did you think of the movie and the book, Mary Beery?

I loved the book. I was looking forward to the movie but the movie was unrecognizable as the same story. I was so disappointed. I think the movie was a sell out vehicle for Kate Winslet to star. All the beautiful details that I’d loved about the book were not there.

I have only seen the movie and enjoyed it. So now I’m anxious to read the book because of your review.

The book is so good. The stories really have almost nothing in common. I don’t want to spoil anything but in the book Ben’s wife is pregnant when she leaves him. Please read the book and then let me know what you think.

I read the book about 18 months ago and fell in love with Charles Martin’s writing style. Not sure I will ever go see the movie since I know it can’t capture Martin’s writing. Check out what Martin said about the movie. http://newsletter.charlesmartinbooks.com/t/y-55DF5F1D974FAB27?platform=hootsuite
