Brilliant series. Just started them this year. He’s now one of my favourite authors.

I have read the first 3 and have number 4 ready. Generally above average series but with a poorly written sidekick. (Qualified detective who needs every deductive leap explained to him by the MC). Despite that, still worth a read.

I haven’t read any of his yet. I keep picking them up in the bookshop, read the back and decide they sound just too gruesome.

Andrew

They are gruesome but something about the tone of the books stop them from being overwhelmingly so. If you’ve read any Mo Hayder they are about on par with that.

0
Linda

@Andrew No I haven’t read Mo Hayden either. I have read to name a few: Peter James, Mark Billingham, Tania Carver, M.R. Hall, Sharon Bolton

0
Andrew

Certainly more gruesome than the Peter James books I have read.

Try eBay. I got a couple on there for £2.60 each.

Andrew

No 4 is just 99p for kindle edition on Amazon right now. I’m guessing you are wanting the physical books but just thought I would let you know just in case.

Patricia

Stella, I love charity shops for books. They’re my second try after the library. If you read a lot per month it can get expensive ?

Andrew

Richard Montanari’s Kevin Byrne series. John Connolly’s Charlie Parker series – although Parker veers more into supernatural territory. Excellent books which I *whisper* actually prefer to Carter

0
Andrew

Also Mo Hayder is excellent.

0
Maggie

Yes mo hayder excellent … still can’t erase some of the content of birdman from my mind

2
Dolly

Simon Beckett is good I’ve read a couple and have just ordered the other two until his new ones out.Hes a forensic anthropologist though not a detective

0
Saskia

I second Richard Montanari, Mo Hayder and Simon Beckett? Cody McFadyen is also very “nice”. From him the Smoky Barrett series and by Chelsea Cain the Archie & Gretchen series (both need to be read in order?)
