It’s very well written, and written from a very unusual perspective. I read it when it was first published and still love it.

I had a very hard time getting into the book, I kept putting it down, because of the unusual narrative. I saw the movie, I live in Canada, and it helped me finish the book. The movie was very good.

Can’t read anything about abused children

0
Reply
Clare

It wasn’t about the abuse of the child as such

0
Bayard

sorry, old peds nurse, a kid living in a closet is abuse, but not saying you shouldn’t read it, saying, i can’t

0
Clare

Ok. But the story wasn’t about his abuse is what I’m saying.

0
Bayard

Clare, i did try, twice, sorry, i couldn’t get through it…but if you enjoyed the book, great, i’m just staring my opinion

0
Clare

It’s not a subject for everyone, and it’s uncomfortable to read.

0
Ann

The child wasn’t abused I also can’t read that stuff.

0
Ann

This was fantastic, no real abuse language but amazing how a human adapts!

I loved it but people have said its a marmite book, however I think if you get used to the style of writing it’s an amazing book that stays with you for s long time ?

I read it just about when the real cases were coming to light made it a must read despite finding the child’s voice really annoying until I got lost in the story and forgot it.

I passed my book onto a colleague and she came into work the next day and said she had been up all night reading it. I love passing on books I’ve loved, it’s even better when the person you gave it too loved it as much as you ?

I read it the day it was published in hardback, quite a few years ago now. I’m a huge fan of her books, but Room really is excellent. Brilliant writing, incredible insight, amazing.

Good in parts. Definitely not a prolific readers kind of book. Glaring problems as much as i wanted to like it. Will make a good movie as movie makers will change the anticlimatic ending.

Interested to know why you feel that prolific readers would not like this book? I read, on average, 10 books per month and Room is one of my all time favourites.
