I have read it a few times. I would agree that it starts slow but it’s worth it. I also really enjoyed Dark Places and her short story The Grown-Up. All were better than Gone Girl in my opinion. I did enjoy Gone Girl but felt it was over hyped.
I didn’t really enjoy GG at all. I kept waiting for it to get really good and it never did. But I liked the writing style, so I read the other two. Dark Places is now my favorite scary book.
My mystery readers’ group just read it. Here are their comments: Don – Ex – Loved it. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Three very serious psychological disorders were displayed and each was well done. The ending brought a sense of hope. (note: Don is a therapist) Erin – Okay – She started out liking and enjoying the writing but then it became overwrought. It was well written, but there was too much going on and it didn’t seem very believable. Gabriel – Okay – Utterly nasty, but skillfully done. Front cover called it “a nasty addiction–The Chicago Tribune”–I should have paid attention. If it hadn’t been so skillful I would have quit early. Couldn’t wait to finish and be done, although I couldn’t put it down. House was really Southern Gothic. Amma is like a creature from a horror story (which, I guess, she is). The book is so negative, everyone who is bulled will be a victim forever (they won’t even leave the town and start over), just to make Wind Gap a total hellhole. Why doesn’t Camille ask Curry to pay for a motel? [PS. The man who recommended the book had a good answer for that one.] And the thing with the teeth was unrealistic–would require specialized training and equipment. Will not read anything else by Gillian Flynn. Heather – Good – Didn’t catch onto her until the middle. The end rather threw her. She liked the small twist at the end.
I read this about 1 month ago, finished in 2 days. It was ok, and is the only book of hers I have read. I thought the story was quite interesting and I was not too surprised at the ultimate finding.
can you guys recommend some psycho thriller books that really discussed mental disorder?and I’d like a book with a DID issue in it, I’ve only had PTSD,psychopath and sociopath on my lists. thanks everyone?
Honestly they all ran together for me. I’ve read all three. I like them but in the end I felt like the theme was the same “ some twisted woman did something bad and then ran with it and ended up doing something even more twisted”.
I liked it so much better than gone girl
totally agree
im reading it now,a bit slow and i read 30% already
I loved that book!! Very good

I read it about a year ago.
I read it a while ago. It’s kind of slow, but not a bad story.
Great book!
I loved it.
Meh
I really liked Sharp Objects, but liked Dark Places even better.
Fantastic book!! Loved it
It’s my favorite of her books (and I’ve read them all).
Reading now…I’m on chapter 7 and it’s hard to get into
me too,a bit slow eh?
Yes girl! Everyone kept telling me it was their favorite and a must read but I’m bored
it’s a good book ( not her best ) a little tough to get into but stick with it, its worth it’
will do?
@Gee then watch the tv show ?
usually a movie or tv show of a book sucks?
@Gee agreed but it’s good. I usually don’t watch them but i love Amy Adams and she was amazing in it
will try, after I’m finished with this one.

Anyway, have you read The last Mrs Parrish?
I forgot the author, but this one’s really good?

I read it over a year ago and it was very good. Very creepy and I read it quickly. After reading it I had to read something smooth.
I liked it a lot…great plot twist!
I liked it, but I LOOOOVE Dark Places.
is dark places more twisted and suspenseful?
@Gee yes!!
I read this about 1 month ago, finished in 2 days. It was ok, and is the only book of hers I have read. I thought the story was quite interesting and I was not too surprised at the ultimate finding.
I loved it
I really liked it
Ehhh…it was ok. More disturbing than her other books. It was her first and to me it was obvious bc it seemed to be trying too hard.
I read Dark Places some months before and didn’t like it at all, so I took off Sharp Objects from my list. ?
My reading group recently did a buddy read and discussion. It was a three star for me! Kinda slow moving.
I LOVED it. Dark places is my favorite then sharp objects then gone girl. Don’t go by the hbo show. It sucked compared to the book
Same order for me.

Read it a while ago. Good, but my least favorite of all her books

Loved it
