The Gentlemen’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is amazing and it’s nice since the story doesn’t revolve only around the character being gay! There’s a great plot to it

David Leviathan writes quite a lot from that perspective and are YA too. (Might have spelt his name a bit wrong)

The Lost Prayers of Ricky Graves – James Han Mattson
It’s relatively unknown but an interesting novel about a gay young man who commits suicide, involves his family’s thoughts to both his sexuality and his death and incorporates the possible dangers of the Internet and our digital footprint.

I’m assuming she’s looking for books for high school students to read at school. “Anything that interests them” is great for outside of school, but too broad for a high school curriculum.

Ahhh. To read in school! Well that’s different ?

I read Almost Perfect by Brian Katcher when I was a senior in high school. It’s more a transgender/gay than just gay or lesbian, but it’s such an incredibly good book (I mean I still remember it six years later). I do remember a tear or two being shed over it. Highly recommend.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and At The Edge of The Universe by Shaun David Hutchison.

They aren’t really about gay people, but both are about a gay main character. (Although is Carry On it takes longer to come out)

How to be normal person by Tj Klume. It covers all sexualities such as homosexuality, bisexuality and asexuality. It very funny and relevant and respectful tone. The humor is little dark but it should be suitable for 17- 18 years olds. One of my favorite romantic novels. 🙂

Tales of the Screaming Eagle is a SF book with gay characters living and working with straight characters in a future where homosexuality is simply no big deal.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post is pretty good, but it deals with really difficult issues (especially bullying and forced ‘reconditioning’ therapy, also drug use, loss of parents) and might be hard for an LGBT teen to read.

Reign of the Fallen has tons of LGBT visibility, including a bi WOC main character with visible attractions to men and women, and a best friend in an open homosexual relationship. I thought it was great LGBT rep without harming or shaming all the LGBT characters.

We Are the Ants is an alien-invasion story with an LGBT main who struggles with mental illness and bullying. Another good story but maybe also challenging to read?

Everything Leads to You is a great LGBT teen romance; very fluffy and cute, light and happy.

If I think of any more, I’ll update, but that’s all I’ve got off the top of my head!
