I love mine, but I mainly only read on it at night, but it is just fine for my daytime reading too and not too bad for direct sunlight if I put the brightness to max and have black writing on white “paper”

I prefer the Paperwhite – you can read outdoors!

The Fire is great if you want an all purpose tablet type device. But if you just want a reader, I’d go with the paper white. The Paperwhite is easier on my eyes, is lighter to carry around (not that the fire is heavy) and you can read outdoors.

If you are planning to use it for reading you need to take the battery life in to consideration.

If you’re wanting to read only, I would advise Paperwhite.

Love my fire, and I turned it to dark background with white letters, seems to have less strain on my eyes, lower blue light to keep me awake. I also check emails, have watched a few movies, downloaded music and a couple of games.

If it is strictly for reading, I’d choose a paperwhite. If you also need a tablet, then a Kindle Fire is a good economical choice

I like the fire … functions like a tablet with WiFi. I love the latest one that came out October 2017.

I find dedicated e-readers to be better than tablets. Better battery life, and easier on the eyes (specialized technology). It depends what your needs and preferences are, as always. Since I have tablets all over the house, there’s no need for the fire.

I feel the same way… and if I want to listen to a book while I’m cooking or doing laundry, I just have the computer voice read it to me. It took some getting used to, but I can’t afford to pay for Audible. ?

If you get the right screen protector and adjust the background color according to the lighting any Amazon e readers are good and they back up their devices pretty good.

It depends really on what you want it for, if your going to use it as a tablet then yes its great although you are locked into the amazon system and not all apps are available like through the play store! If you want it specifically for reading then I would recommend a Paperwhite instead as the fire isn’t designed specifically for reading whereas the Paperwhite is!
