“As I squatted on the grass at the edge of the woods, the pee felt hot between my legs. I watched in puddle in the dirt, the smell of it rising into the night. There was no difference between my piss and June’s. That’s what i thought when I looked at the dark circle on the ground. Piss is Piss.” One of my favorite passages. I read it to my high school students to help them realize no one is better than anybody else!❤
I was thinking the exact same thing today! Given the state of our dear pollinators and the world in general, we should all be reading The Secret Life of Bee’s.
Loved the secret life of bees—great coming of age story and the community of women characters was wonderful. I didn’t like the other book by Sue Monk Kidd nearly as much. The mermaids chair?
The Secret Life of Bees is one of my all time favorites! If you liked it you may also like Four Spirits by Sena Jeter Naslund.

I loved that book, and Sue Monk Kidd’s The Invention of Wings also.
