Like the best coming of age books, you see yourself in it. This book broke my heart, so naturally I reread it about a year later and it broke me again. Raw and real.

Oh! I had forgotten about this book. I read it in 2015 (thanks Goodreads), and I remember now that I absolutely loved it. I was so overcome with emotion. Such a heart-tugging story!

It follows the life of June Elbus, a 14-year-old girl, whose gay uncle had died of AIDS in the 1980s, and the subsequent friendship she develops with his boyfriend.

Such a different book. Love to find a story that is refreshingly original, but not so weird that it doesn’t feel comfortable to read. I looked forward to every chance to read this one, and enjoyed thinking about it again after this post! Thanks for the reminder!
