I just finished the Mortal Instruments series!
Really enjoyed it!

The movie I didn’t like very much, but the TV series on Netflix is good (although a bit campy)
Too bad it was cancelled last summer though ):

Love the books! I enjoyed the movie but that’s because I saw it before I read the books. Haven’t seen it since. Not at all interested in the tv show. They changed too much.

I know but it was better than the movie lol. But the books are so much better, and can’t wait for the 3 new books coming out this year.

Same about the show. It was different and kind of cheaply made.

I love the series. I didn’t mind the movie, I kind of enjoyed the cheeseyness of it, and I thought the casting was just about perfect. I’ve tried watching the show and really hated it.

What is it that people dislike about the show so much?

I get that they changed things from the book, but I think casting was spot on!
Clary is obviously much shorter than the actress, but I thought Jace was a great choice. I didn’t like Jamie Campbell-Bowers Jace ??‍♀️

@Meghan for me I think it’s that by the time the show came out I already had a very clear image in my head of what the characters looked and sounded like, and the show didn’t match it at all. And I know that they had to change things for the show, but I really didn’t like the changes they made. They often messed with the established world and the characters, rather than just adjusting certain things to make it play better on tv. The changes they made seemed unnecessary and really annoyed me, like Luke being a police officer instead of owning a bookstore, and the Institute being modernized and having tons of shadowhunters living there. It all just really bothered me. I only watched a few episodes. I probably would have been fine with the show if I wasn’t such a big fan of the books, though.

@Anna That makes a lot of sense!

Maybe I was lucky because my “vision” of the characters was pretty in line with the show.
That’s why I didn’t like the movie as much.

I do agree with the unnecessary aspect of modernizing the institute & having so many extras around.

I haven’t finished the first season, so maybe as time goes on and it continues to stray from the story I won’t like it as much ^^

I love the series so much more than the movie and I really liked the movie. But think the series cast is much better except Luke. The movie Luke was so much better suited to the role. And don’t even get me started on Kevin Zeggers as Alec. Laughable. Both Jaces were good. Both Clarys were good. But hands down, in my humble opinion, Magnus and Isabella from the series were far superior to the movie acters. But that’s just me. ?

Love the books. Watched the tv show about a year after finishing the books and liked it but I couldn’t watch it straight after reading the series
