Cute. Good tip! I use a pillow but still end up crushing my shoulders. I have to learn to be more comfortable on my back I guess 🙁 I’ve actually thought about posting this before asking what others do!
@Alison, I find that propping the Kindle up on a pillow (or stuffed animal like Serena’s!), raises it up a bit, so I’m not fully on my side, but rather somewhere between side and back. Maybe you could try a plumper pillow or stuffed animal?
depends how long I’m reading for and in what position I’m reading, sitting up, usually my neck gets sore…laying down, my arms get sore so I have to switch hands holding my book. no pain, no gain 😉
Back in my pre-Kindle days my hand would sometimes cramp up. But the Kindle is so light weight that’s no longer a problem. And I do a lot of my reading in bed, lying on my side with the Kindle propped on a pillow so I’m not even holding it at all! Just need to flick a finger slightly to turn the page. ?
@Mary I got it on Amazon. I’m on a trip right now or I’d post a photo. I got my husband one too, he loves it bc it keeps the lights in our ceiling from shining on the iPad.
Yes. Depends how I sit or lay to read …but it’s not from “reading” I’ve been a carpenter for a long time….so I’ve beat up my body. And now at 47…. EVERYTHING hurts….lol Biggest thing for me is…my hands go numb….I’ve actually dropped a book or Kindle on my face if I’m laying I’m bed reading…lol. Which is a great story…. ” How’d ya get the back eye?”. Uhhhhh. I was reading…..???
I get reading shoulder!
From holding a book?
from lying on my side while reading!
@Alison If you use a device, find a stuffed animal to support it. Prop the device between its arms and legs.

i know what you’re saying. I agree but not as comfy 😉
Sometimes my hands cramp up from holding the book
That’s crazy!
Neck, shoulder and hands, lol.
So every night when I go to bed, hubby brings me my mini ice bag so I can put it between my neck and pillow so I can read more, lol.
Reading neck

Elbow and or pain in my hand lol
My elbow aches from bending it too long, and my hands go numb if I don’t change positions often. Using a kindle with the cover propping it up helps
Yep all the time
If I read on my cell phone for too long my wrist gets sore.

@Serena, brilliant!! ?
Yes!!! I thought I made that up lol
…and neck ache…xxx
Wrist ?
book holder’s cramp in my thumb
Me!
A perk of an ereader. You can set the book down and don’t have to hold it open.
Yup. But I’ve got arthritis in my neck.
Me.. all sorts of contrivances.. rounded padded arms on chairs.. elbow brace at hand..etc etc
I get reading wrist pain.
One of the many reasons I love ebooks.
I get real sore if I don’t have a TBR stack.???
Yes! My hand actually can fall asleep!
I do all the time, but the alternative is neck pain from looking down onto my Kindle or book.
I have a stand for my iPad, holds it up in the air. Can’t do a photo right now as I’m not home. Just put it on a couple pillows, nothing to hold open.
@Bonnie thankyou, where do you get it?
@Mary I got it on Amazon. I’m on a trip right now or I’d post a photo. I got my husband one too, he loves it bc it keeps the lights in our ceiling from shining on the iPad.
Dry elbows. My hands cramp terribly
I wiggle waggle hands from time to time.. learned that from having carpal tunnel and before and after hand surgeries..
You know you may need to get some cardio.
Yes!
Yep
Have it now… sigh.
The struggle is real.
My wrists bother me, but I am a dedicated hard cover book lover!
Neck ….
Boy I sure do…
I do yoga and stretches while reading. Nope
Yup ? I keep a pillow at hand now to rest my arm on.
Neck…
Yes
Neck pain and back pain if I lie straight and if I lie on sides then hand cramps. ??
And I thought I was the only one and something’s wrong with my body. ??
Such a relief to hear that it’s that common. :p
When reading laying down
No, I use a book seat when I read heavy books. Very handy device!
Two years ago, I got one of these. BEST. INVESTMENT. EVER.
Yes!!

I love this little holder for my Kindle. If closes to almost nothing and fits in my purse. I can use it to hold my Kindle either vertically or horizontally. It goes everywhere my Kindle goes.

My hands fall asleep lol
The struggle is real. My left wrist is also the worst when it comes to pain.
My neck..and my eyes are shot to hell
