I don’t skip a word. I’m slower than some but if I find books that grab me, it seems I can fly through them.

I am….. so I mostly listen to audiobook. But, if I were to read in my native language Chinese, I can read it three times as fast.

If it’s something I want to read, I read slowly. If I have to read it, I speed up a lot.

I am a very slow reader. I can’t finish a book in a day no matter how much I read.

Never think about my speed, just read.

Yes. I have friends that read books in one or two days. I’m so envious.

Yes. I read very slowly. Both from a standpoint of words per minute and in terms of total length of time it takes to read a book. I only get through 5-6 books per year (though in my defense, I have 4 kids and a part time job, so I’m busy). Audiobooks have become my friend!

I am definitely a slow reader but I seem to absorb more than most people so it’s not all bad. 🙂 There was a poll in one of these groups recently and I was surprised that most people reported reading maybe fifty pages per day. That’s not too unrealistic for me. I could read that in an hour…. So just an hour of reading a day and maybe I could keep up with everyone. I just got this app called Bookly that can track your reading. That’s how I know I’m reading at like fifty pages per hour. I think it’s helping me with perspective as I’m trying to read more lately.

I’m not challenging anyone to complete books- especially myself!

I read at the pace that fits my lifestyle and the book I’m reading… if it’s very exciting I’m faster- but often feel I have to go back and read essential bits again slowly to take them all in.

Yes – I feel like I’m slow, but I read to relax and it’s not a race. 🙂

I am. I tend to reread some sentences and go “dang” I also like to read for what I turn into quotes?. However, there are few times, I find finish a book much faster than my usual pace. However, I notice even at my snail pace, if a book was just “meh”, I tend to forget I read it- that si when I thank Goodreads for the reminder.

I get distracted so easily! A book has to hook me in right away or forget it!!

I do feel like I am one – I certainly am one! And, to be totally honest, I’m absolutely fine with it now! I’ve long thought I didn’t read fast enough – and I live with a man who can easily read three books while I’m reading mine… But after a while, I’ve come to the conclusion that, well, fair enough, that’s who I am now (at university I used to read much faster!)… So, if you ever feel bad about it, don’t! 😉

My mother is an insomniac- she can read 1/2/3 depending on size/her interest in a night… it took me 3 years after my son was born (actually after that dream period of 6 months) to read again- and the first book took about 4/5 months. I’m getting faster.. but I would prefer to be engaged with my son and life then be completing books or not sleeping!!

@Carmel I’m not in a similar situation, but I totally get it! If books teach us valuable things about life, we should not forget to live it!!

@Chloé don’t get me wrong! I love to read- but I don’t opt out of life to read… maybe I used to… at 45 with a 3 year old! He’s worthy of my time and energy!! Ha ha

@Carmel I totally get what you mean, don’t worry! It’s all a matter of balance between a great family life and great time reading books! And both can be had!! 😀

I’m a slow reader if I don’t like the book… or it doesn’t catch my interest… I thought I was a slow reader until I found a book I really liked and read it in one day ? then I learned why I was slow with the other books! Find a book you really like and see how long it will take you to read it! ❤️

I know people who I would view as fast readers. I think I have an average speed; if I try to go faster I lose the drift of something and have to go back over it ?

Sometimes yet when a book is really compelling and holds my interest, I keep reading until I need a break or come to the next chapter.

If it is a book for pure entertainment, I can race through it. If it is a deeper book, or is beautifully written, I make myself slow down for understanding. I would say never worry about how slow or fast you are, just read.
