Anyone else a crazy book hoarder when they travel?

Headed to a conference in Anaheim, packing ‘Less’ by Andrew Sean Greer, and ‘Twisted Prey’ by John Sandford, for the plane ride. In the suitcase, ‘The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society’ by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows and ‘The English Patient’. Audiobooks – ‘The Martian’, ‘I’ll Be Gone in the Dark’ and ‘Streets of Laredo’. Have books loaded on my Kindle app from the library too. Anyone else a crazy book hoarder when they travel? Usually find a new thriller at the airport book store…

This is one reason I love my Kindle. When I was young I travelled 50% of the time often going out for a month or more. My luggage was half books and very heavy.

We take turns reading aloud to the driver, so it’s usually a couple of books per trip just for that. ?

I thought Less was okay. Didn’t love it tho. Then again, I didn’t like The Martian either, and everyone loves that.

@Jason – sometimes it’s where you are in life. It probably spoke to me being in my 50’s. ?

Makes sense. I’m not that far from 50 tho. I didn’t hate it or anything. I probably was expecting too much. I read it right after it won the Pulitzer

@Jason Maybe you actually have to be over that 50 hump…lol!

Jason

Maybe so. Lol. There were probably a few reasons now that I think about it. One of my favorite books is the Goldfinch, and a friend told me I’d like Less if I enjoyed The Goldfinch. So, I went into it with high hopes. Probably would have liked it more without the expectations.

@Jason Huh!? I don’t see any connection between The Goldfinch and Less. Completely different genres! Though loved them both, maybe avoid that friend!!

Jason

Yes. The only connection is that they both won Pulitzer’s. Maybe he’s read neither one and wanted to pretend. ?

Angelica

Yeah, definitely avoid!

I download books from the library…both audio and ebooks. I remember years ago going to a 2nd hand book store and stocking up before every trip. Half my daughter’s suitcase would be books. After reading, we would donate them to the local charity shops. Much easier to return to the library electronically.

Let us know what you think of Less. Some reviews are less than glowing. I loved The Guernsey, The Martian and I’ll be Gone. Good choices! ?

Less was just an average book in my opinion. It wasn’t bad, but I was surprised it won the Pulitzer after reading it.
