Anybody like short chapters in fiction and brief introductions in non-fiction?

Anybody else like short chapters in fiction and brief introductions in non-fiction? I do. Short chapters provide lots of good stopping-off places, breathers so to speak. And long intros (28 pages in one non-fiction I read!) make me SO impatient to just get started, already!

Yes, I love short chapters. I seem to get through the book much faster that way.

I appreciate short chapters a lot more since my stroke.

Yes! Love short chapters – lots of excuses to get another cookie or glass of wine ?. And agree about the long intros. Just started a book with an intro, a preface, and then another more current intro. Enough already.

Sometimes if a non-fiction book has been really, really good I welcome going BACK to the intro to wring even more information out of the book.

I read before bed and often have trouble staying awake or focusing. So, short chapters are definitely preferable.

The length of chapters don’t bother me too much, I don’t mind stopping halfway through a chapter. I quite often read in places where I have to stop abruptly – waiting for buses, supermarket queues etc, when I am likely to have to stop at any time, so chapter length is irrelevent. I’m used to stopping and starting a lot. I may or may not read the whole of an introduction, depends how interesting it is.

Same here!

I do! Especially since I prefer to end my reading at the end of a chapter. Also, the book does seem to be read faster by me for some reason.

Short chapters but more importantly short paragraphs!

Ha! I remember reading David Foster Wallace and I started reading the preface… many hours later I finished the book. Basically, I think he started with preface then his train of thought took over and the entire book took over. No chapters… just a really long book length preface. 🙂

Tim, I salute you! I’ve tried, but have never gotten through anything by DFW.

I love short chapters. I have young children and get lots of interruptions, so shorter chapters are convenient for me.
