Good story but the author does an awful lot of hand holding and has a habit of explaining their own metaphors which is annoying ? but ignoring that the story is quite good and it’s not usually my thing

Great book, I loved it. My Husband, who is a committed non reader found this after I had read it and didn’t put it down after looking at the first page. I have never been able to get him to read anything else since….

Have you read Hosseini’s other two books? They’re just as good. My favorite is A Thousand Splendid Suns.

I liked it. Sad, poignant…some parts that are rather shocking…. Much prefer this to a thousand suns… ps there is a movie of this book (I have not seen it) with English subtitles.

Well written, but I found the plot upsetting. Convinced me never to read anything by him ever again.

Why so?

Without spoilers, there were some lengthy, detailed descriptions of violence, sufficiently lengthy and detailed to make me think that he (the author) was enjoying it. Life is often painful and violent, and there is some value in the portrayal of that fact, but I don’t want to spend time with someone who enjoys inflicting pain on his imaginary friends.

^ yeah?

Well, I’m not so emotional myself and I don’t really have any experiences that may be considered that bad. No problem for me.
Thanks!

Great book and well worth reading. Aspects of the book are deeply sad but they give us an idea of some of the heartache that people experience.

I see I am in the minority but I had a real problem with the writing style and format of the book. The story was interesting but the style was too ABC for me. As if he was following a diagram of how to write. I have not read any of the authors other books, Let us know how you feel after you read it. 🙂

Sure, as I see that the majority like it, but a few have shocking opinions about it like you. I hope it’s not that badly written, or I might find it hard to read it to the end.
I’ll make sure to tell you what I think about it as soon as I finish it, and thank you for your insight.
