I could do with some too. How people knock out 100+ books a year is beyond me!! Even over 50 I think is impressive.

Just keep going
Lol that’s generally all I can say the more you read the quicker you’ll read especially if it’s a series you love xx

Thank Fran! But I’m 44 next week and have been reading for a bit now, still no change!

You have to read books that are your opposite and you would have a hard time with. Then when you read normal books it will seem like a breeze.

Why the rush, read at your own pace & enjoy it…I have so many books I want to read but I’m not going to stress about doing them at speed, reading should be a pleasure x

I’m on book 131 for the year. I’ve always been a very fast reader – I also read at every opportunity. While eating meals, in the bath, standing at the stove stirring something, on the loo, anywhere and everywhere!

I only read so many because I don’t work or have kids.

Really, it’s not about the amount you read, it’s about enjoying what you read.

Exactly. Quality over quantity ?

Ah but you see I want to read more.

I agree with @Tracey. I can get through a couple of books a week, so there are plenty faster, but that’s only because I have a 45 minute train commute each way. Would hardly get through any if it wasn’t for that.

I think that’s just something that comes naturally to some people. I am naturally a fast reader. It also depends on your schedule. I have read 170 books this year, but I’m a stay at home mom. Between the twins naps, cleaning and etc. and mainly before and after my fam gets up and goes to bed is my reading time. If you want to read more I think it’s also about finding the time and setting that works for you to get more reading done.

Try audiobooks. They’ll surprise you, plesantly.I myself have very little time to read and therefore i had to find a solution and audiobooks are my new addiction. You can cook and listen to a book, you can go to the gym and listen to a book, you can go jogging and listen to a book, you can go shopping and listen to a book

I find if I am really interested in a book I end up “devouring” it. Can’t put it down. Average speed of reading but I get it done. :-B

Why speed up? Go at your own pace and enjoy it. It’s not a contest.

Totally agree!!

1. Eliminate time thieves–those activities that are really a waste of time (like watching tv, Internet, etc.).
2. Use available moments to read–like waiting in a long line or while you get your vehicle’s oil changed or waiting for a child’s game, play, dance to start.
3. Choose books that are worth reading!

I use the back of a bookmark underneath the line I’m reading, especially in places with noise, and it helps concentrate and I read faster. I’ve beat my record for books this year, but it’s mainly me being more interested in what I’ve been reading. I wouldn’t worry about how fast others are reading or how many books they’ve read. It’s for pleasure and everyone is different!

I use my bookmark like this but I still read every word as if I’m reading aloud. It slows me down but I like to savour every word.

I read every word, too. I never skip words lol

Funny how people think there is some competitive reasoning behind the question. I love reading and want read more, it’s as simple as that 🙂

I understand your reasoning, Leo but I do enjoy savoring the book too. I do have so many waiting for me though 😀

I am a slow reader because I visualize most of what I’m reading and if it is a great book I want to enjoy the experience. I’ve tried speeding up but I seem to miss enjoying the small details.

I actually have to slow down to savor a book. In grade school they had an experimental program where they fed us words then sentences. I can read a 300 pg book per day but if it’s enjoyable o have to try to slow it down.

I have a 45 min train ride to/from work that’s just straight read time. And I’m lucky at work to be able to wear headphones all day, which means audio books! So some weeks I can knock out 4-5 books… it’s kind of cheating to listen to them all day, but I had read 50 by August, before I discovered Overdrive ? now I’m on #82

How do you concentrate on work if you are listening to an audiobook? No judgement-wish I had that skill! ?

I work in a cash vault, I just money all day. Seems to work out alright for me ? just lucky I get paid to listen to books!

Quit your job, let your house go, let any children and/or significant others take care of themselves. You must have priorities!

I used to be a very slow reader, that is until I began reading The Plains of Passage by Jean M Auel. That book was so boring (and over 700 pages), but I refused to put it down and begin another book untll that one was finished, so for self-preservation I learned how to skim!

Read at your own pace. You do you boo!

I can read swiftly but sometimes in a book there is a chapter that is too awesome to be taken in at once ,so I go back and read it again and that slows me down .But I completed Inferno (by Dan Brown )in one day so I guess I’m decent .
By the way ,read at your own speed ,cause believe me when you’re with books you have all the time in the world .

Don’t bother. Read at your own pace. I’m mildly dyslexic so I read relatively slowly, but I remember much more than fast readers, and enjoy every minute!

There are pluses and minuses about reading fast. I am usually a fast reader but I try to slow myself down usually. How I read fast is by 1: I get in the “zone” with no distractions. 2: I (And this is the minus part) read probably only 2/3 of the words. My brain fills in the “ empty connector” words. This will speed you up, but you need to practice. For some reason it is my default mode which makes analyzing language use in books a real pain

Don’t try to quicken your pace. If it’s the normal pace you read at that means that that’s the way you get to experience everything to the fullest and to its most.
Reading slowly is beautiful because you can actually see everything unfold in front of you instead of when you try to fasten the process

What is faster ..how long you take for a like 500 pages book ? For me it depends how much time I got ..it can take 2 days or 3 weeks

Time is scarse so most of the time a larger book takes a month. Two weeks for a 360 pager. Less on holiday.

i’ve been reading since i was a kid and it didn’t do anything to speed up my pace. i was always the last one to borrow the book because i read the slowest. and i have learned to accept that.

Read great books. Not good books or mediocre books or bad books. That’s the secret. Books that you read because you cant stop reading. Books that are so well written the words are like music. Start with this one. It has a sequel and after that you might want to read Victor Hugo. The Brontes. Dickens. After that, you wont read anything that isn’t a great story that you love.

Audio books. I listen to books while commuting, doing house and yard work, and at the office when possible.
