I didn’t think it was very well written though the story itself was interesting. I kept wanting to like it more but overall I was disappointed with the writing.
I’m currently reading this book. I like the telling of the history but the flow of the writing is frustrating. I’m looking forward to watching the movie when I finish the book.
I liked it, and it made me think about all the animals humans keep in enclosed areas and their plight when we cannot provide their care properly. Made me rethink zoos in general.
I would probably try reading it (haven’t yet) but I could not get through the movie at all. I was done within the first 30 minutes. Too much blood and guts with all of the bombing. I usually eat up that time period and WW II books and movies.
I’m an outlier here. I thought it was so boring. I wanted to finish it, so I listened to the sound recording. I found my mind wandering a lot listening to it too.
I actually purchased it thinking it was fiction, I tend to just pick up anything that is set in Poland, only to start reading and realized it’s non-fiction. I found it to be amazing, a storyline that I knew nothing about but realize now the story needed to be told. Made me cry at times. Don’t judge the book based on the movie. The movie is good but the book tells so much more of the heart wrenching story.
I liked it, and I thought the movie was good. Personally, the book is better, but that is often the case. My husband did enjoy the film. We like that it is non-fiction.
Our 7th graders read this book. I have grown to love it. At first, I was skeptical but the more often I read it, the more insight I have into it. I also went to see a production of the play at the IRT in Indianapolis one year! Very well done!
I loved the book . I learned a lot of true facts. I read a lot of World War II holocaust Books and I also watch a lot of movies that involve the same subject. I thought the movie was very good too ..is very entertaining but the book gave me a lot of facts that I didn’t even know before.
Saw the movie and loved it! The husband is profiled at the DC Holocaust Museum.
Excellent read! True story.
I loved it!
A very good read.
I loved it
A very good read and a very good movie! Loved it so much!
I didn’t think it was very well written though the story itself was interesting. I kept wanting to like it more but overall I was disappointed with the writing.
I agree, one time I enjoyed a film more than the book.
I agree as well. The book and movie were just okay.
Loved it as well.
I enjoyed both the book and the movie.
What!!! There’s a movie? :O
I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the book, have not seen the movie. It was a bit hard to read though.
Enjoyed the book. Haven’t seen the movie.
I loved it!!! One of my favorites.
I have read and re-read this book. I really like it.
Touching; highly recommend
I liked the book but it wasn’t my favorite.
Great book!
I loved it. And I actually enjoyed the movie too.
A really good read
Loved the book and the movie.
Try “All the Light We Cannot See. If you enjoyed The Zoo keepers Wife’
Didn’t read, but loved the movie. Great cast.
Loved it!
Loved it!
It was good
Great book!!
Loved it
Excellent book!!
Great
Boring. Another one I had to force myself through….
Great.
Couldn’t finish it. Tried twice . I really wanted to like it.
Awful, boring read.?
It was an awesome book, horrible movie!
Did not like it. I couldn’t finish it and I hate when I do that!!
Book was bad; movie was worse.
Movie was great
Loved it!
I remember literally nothing about it, except that I enjoyed it at the time. 🙂
I really enjoyed it but I really enjoy historical fiction.
This book is actually non-fiction, I bought it thinking it was fiction too.
Enjoyed it
I really enjoyed the book. I thought the movie was stupid, but the book was really good.
Didn’t finish it… bored with it.
Same here. I tried to get through it but finally gave up and decided I could go back to it later, maybe.
Loved it
I’m currently reading this book. I like the telling of the history but the flow of the writing is frustrating. I’m looking forward to watching the movie when I finish the book.
Thought it good historical fiction based on real events.
I liked the book more than I liked the movie!
Loved the movie.
A good read.
I read half of it, put it down and never did finish it.
I thought it was a good book. I guess I hadn’t known about the Poland aspect of the war before.
I liked it, and it made me think about all the animals humans keep in enclosed areas and their plight when we cannot provide their care properly. Made me rethink zoos in general.
Loved it!
Great book, so so movie.
I thoughtbitvwas wonderful, knowing there were people willing to risk their lives to save Jews.
Loved it too!
Loved it!
Try the Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, my favorite
One o my favorites as well
Currently reading Kristin Hannah’s “The Great Alone”
Liked the Great alone but loved the Nightingale
The story was good but I wasn’t a fan of the writing style.
I loved it.
I thought it was a great book but I had to force myself to stay with it. By the time I was half way into it I was hooked.
Enjoyed it, but also had to work to stay with it.. glad I did
I would probably try reading it (haven’t yet) but I could not get through the movie at all. I was done within the first 30 minutes. Too much blood and guts with all of the bombing. I usually eat up that time period and WW II books and movies.
Liked it.
Loved it
I loved it.
I loved it!
I liked the movie and don’t remember it being gory. I’m sure it was if you say so @Jeanne
I think the animals being blown up by the bombs were just too much for this animal lover!!
@Jeanne I agree!!
I really liked it.
Great movie!!!
One of the better WW2 books out there. Maybe because the characters were real people and so carefully developed.
It is a wonderful book!
I loved it
Very good read.
I had a hard time with it because of the death of all the animals–but all in all it was a good read.
I enjoyed it. I like stories that shed new light on history.
Great Book, loved better than the movie!
I wanted to get into it but just couldn’t:(
I’m an outlier here. I thought it was so boring. I wanted to finish it, so I listened to the sound recording. I found my mind wandering a lot listening to it too.
Hated it.
@Lisa-your thoughts?
Wanted to love it but didn’t. The writing was just blah. Never saw the movie either.
Loved it!
Good to know, but I did love the movie. I’ll try book now.
I liked it, and I thought the movie was good. Personally, the book is better, but that is often the case. My husband did enjoy the film. We like that it is non-fiction.
Great read
Fabulous!
It’s non-fiction which is why it’s not on the list.
Still a great read
Loved it!! And it’s a true story
Book – Good Movie – Another story altogether.
Our 7th graders read this book. I have grown to love it. At first, I was skeptical but the more often I read it, the more insight I have into it. I also went to see a production of the play at the IRT in Indianapolis one year! Very well done!
Great book.
I thought I’d like it, but I had just finished ” The Nightingale” my Kristin Hannah and “Irene’s Children.” Too much.
Great historical fiction. Brave people who saved lives.
Important Clarification the book is nonfiction
@Erin it read just like a novel and was beautifully written! Thank you for the clarification
Whenever I read a book intended teens I feel it and it turns me off
It was wonderful.
Didn’t enjoy the writing style. Too matter of fact for me, but what was happening was certainly scary.
This is one example that I enjoyed the movie more than the book. The book was slow and tedious to read.
Loved it.
I liked it and it was well written but I wish there was less description on insects and more on the emotional aspect.
Tried watching the movie and just couldn’t finish
I thought it read like a text book instead of a novel.
It is not a novel. It is a nonfiction book
It was terribly sad, andI agree it was pretty dry!
Was really moved by the book. Will probably reread it. Haven’t seen the move, probably won’t.
Don’t see the movie…totally messed it up.
Slow.
Loved it
Movie was good!
The audiobook was good and the story is well worth knowing about
Good.
A lot of description! It took me awhile to get through it. I kept thinking it would make a great movie, but I haven’t watched the movie, yet.
Great read. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Grrrrreat read; awful movie
Didn’t read the book but thought the movie was good.
Just ok for me
I liked it. Worth reading.
I enjoyed it.
boring
Terrible book… too much description
It was good
Good but extremely detailed
Great!
It is terrific.
I enjoyed it a lot.
Loved it!
Wonderful book about an amazing woman
I really loved it.
Enjoyed it
I enjoyed it. I read it prior to the movie. It seemed a little dry to me. I don’t know how else to describe it.
It was so good.
It was a bit confusing.
Absolutely loved this book
I’ve seen the film and liked it, but the book is probably better.
Here’s the question of whether book or film is better. For me, usually the book.
Loved it
I loved it…much better than the movie.
Book is better than movies always
Loved the book and the movie.
I have not read it yet
Our book club enjoyed it at Martin Memorial Library.
Did not like this one
It took a bit to get use to it but loved it.
Loved it and I felt the movie was also well done
A great read
Great movie
I had to turn it off when they shot the animals?
I did not care for it at all. I feel as if the entire book was written in passive voice and I can’t stand passive voice.
I didn’t enjoy it at all.
I loved the book . I learned a lot of true facts. I read a lot of World War II holocaust Books and I also watch a lot of movies that involve the same subject. I thought the movie was very good too ..is very entertaining but the book gave me a lot of facts that I didn’t even know before.
Loved it! I learned a lot! The people who put their lives in danger hiding Jewish People from the nazis had guts!
Check into the book
“Bodies and Souls” by Isabel Vincent.
I just ordered it and it looks great,it’s about 3 Jewish women forced into prostitution .
Thanks for the suggestion…I ordered it too!
I liked it.
I didn’t care for it
…so loved the movie..
I really like it – nothing better than a true story.
i loved it.suspenseful
