I finished it, but in retrospect I could have read something much better during that time. It’s…just….so……..slow.

Ishiguro is not for everyone. But those of us who love him do find his books deeply rewarding.

I was fairly skeptical for the first third or half of the book. It felt like it was going to be too obvious and predictable and trite. I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out.

And I think that deliberately subverting expectations ended up being pretty essential to why I loved it. But it can also make it a frustrating read.

It’s in my top ten, but it also broke my heart.

Keep with it, it does take about half the book before you understand what’s going on

This book creates a spell … an alternate entirely believable reality that will haunt you as will the characters.

I didn’t super care for the writing. But I will also never forget the story. I would say it is worth a read if you tend to read more than 30 books a year. …is there a movie? This might be the one time the movie would be better than the book!

The subject matter was very disturbing.

I loved the remains of the day. I hated this one and didn’t finish it.

I would get impatient with it, but I am glad I read it and then watched the movie.
