Depends on what you like. Men At Arms by Terry Pratchett is a murder mystery in a fantasy setting with a comedic bent. Silence of the Lambs is a psychological thriller that boils down to cops pursuing a killer.
And then you have my books. I write lighthearted murder mysteries. http://jaymims.com/
Have you read the classics as Dashiell Hammett’s The Maltese Falcon and Red Harvest; Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep, The Long Goodby, and Farewell My Love?
The Maltese Falcon is the best of all those classics, it was so successful that it has 3 movie versions, 1931, 1936, 1941. The last one is one of the classics of the film noir, directed by John Huston and with Humphrey Bogart, Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet, the most amazing trio in movie history.
I really liked Defending Jacob by William Landay. It’s not a genre I typically read, but that book stayed with me.
The Harry Bosch/Mickey Haller series by Michael Connelly.
Connelly writes well. An excellent recommendation.
I second this. He is awesome and also Greg Iles Penn Cage series.
Jo Nesbo is brilliant
Might suggest one of my own titles as some people have really liked it. A Hawaiian cop story. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mano-Liam-Robert-Mullen-ebook/dp/B072J2M2ML/
