Check out the By the Book podcast. The hosts pick a self-help book, live by it for two weeks, then discuss how it went, if it worked, what they liked, what they didn’t like, etc. It’s a good way to check out a lot of different types of self-help books without actually having to read them all.
The pocast is also available via podbean (and I assume other platforms.) And I think there is a fb page from memory and a website for moodprep where all the episodes are available !
Anything by Brene Brown, maybe Daring Greatly? Also Martin Seligman or Barabara Fredrickson books, some of the insights from positive psychology have helped me be happier.
I LOVE self development books. My favourites include The Power of Habit by Charles Dihigg, The Chimp Paradox by Steve Peters and Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton and Sheila Heen.
The best self-improvement book isn’t in print. It comes from getting out and helping others, even in very small ways, from being positive, and most of all, from being mindfully grateful for all the tiny gifts you are given each and every day. Start by writing your own book every night of the things for which you are grateful, including being able to help someone else, or the small things others did for you. Self-improvement doesn’t come from without; it comes from within.
I started keeping a daily gratitude journal in 1982 and have never missed a day. The tough days are when it’s most important. For the past four years, I’ve been posting my gratitudes online. The greatest gift is seeing how many others now do the same.
Read or watch anything by Dr. Wayne Dyer. Also, maybe watch the movie, “Good Will Hunting,” and “Jerry McGuire.” Those movies have hidden messages of inspiration. Fav part from “Good Will Hunting” was when Will’s teacher/psychologist (played by Robin Williams) said to him, “It’s not your fault. It’s not your fault. It’s not your fault…” over and over again until Will broke.
The bible. Though let me tell you that it’s not a magical book that will make your life better in a split second. But it will tell you about God, His character, and his redemptive story to save mankind from a fallen world we live in. The more you know God and develop an intimate relationship with him. I promise you your life will be different. You ‘ll experience more peace, more joy, and the security and assurance in tough times. This world is only a temporary home for us. Eternity in heaven with God is where it’s at. It’s where I look forward to.
