Any preferences within that? What are your kiddos interests? YA fantasy I liked six of crows, daughter of smoke and bone
Sci fi: ready player one
Magical realism: I’ll give you the sun
Realistic fiction: everything everything and the sun is also a star (a bit romancy)
Historical fiction: salt to the sea and between shades of gray

Also Chinese Cinderella (memoir) and the Redwall series (a bit younger but I loved them and read them from fifth grade through college lol)

I like the idea of a series! That’s something she hasn’t really explored.

Six of crows is a duology and the grisha series is in the same universe, Smoke and bone is a trilogy, I also loved tales of the otori but can’t remember if the content was more adult or not. It’s been a long time since i read them.
A wrinkle in time is also a series!

One of my favorite reads in high school was Animal Farm. Does the student like Romance, Fantasy? What sort of books do they enjoy reading?

She likes most genres. If it doesn’t capture her interest right away though, she moves on to something else.

Can it be anything she chooses or are there certain requirements?

If she is an avid reader, think about doing Uppercase! She gets a brand new autographed copy of a new release (often not even on shelves yet), and several booking items. I have loved this service and have added to my classroom library every month. However, if you guys are going to library, pick up a copy of Jodi Picoult’s Nineteen Minutes. Great read for any high schooler.
