any novels about college life?
Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster. Wonderful book. By the end you feel you have been to college with Judy.
Mysteries of Pittsburgh by Michael Chabon.
Check out Life After Genius
The Secret history by Donna Tartt
Beat me to it!
Was about to say the same! Just started to re-read it and it’s better than I remember.
This is one that I couldn’t finish. I disliked all the characters too much to care.
Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld
The Idiot by Elif Batuman. It’s on my tbr list.
I’m not having much luck with The Idiot…kinda gave up a couple of chapters in
I was really looking forward to reading this, but like @Helen, I gave up not very far into it.
@Rachael…same. It was just too much effort for so many pages!
All good to know. Thanks for the input!
The Group by Mary McCarthy
I re-read this a couple years ago. It’s a good story, dated, but good.
beautiful disaster by jamie mcguire
The Art of Fielding
The secret history
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Dear Committee Members by Julie Schumacher. Giles Goat Boy by John Barth.
Been Down So Long Looks Like Up To Me by Richard Farina
That’s a blast from the past! Loved that when I read it in my 20s.
@Janet Me too. Loved it then.
The one by Tom Wolf. My Name is Charlotte (I think).
The Art of Fielding, by Chad Harbach, and The Marriage Plot, by Jeffrey Eugenides are two that I enjoyed.
mazes and monsters by Rona Jafee.
Less Than Zero (vacation from college anyway), Dead Poet’s Society, Mona Lisa’s Smile
Penelope by Harrington
Love this one!!
I thought the writing was beautiful! Amazing first novel.
Yes, very good.
Moo by Jane Smiley
A funny one too!
Yep, one of my favorite novels.
The Sterile Cuckoo
The End of the Road by John Barth
The Book Of Skulls, Robert Silverberg
Dead Poets Society is my favourite film and I’d imagine there’s a screenplay. Set in a college. Love the theme about the quest to be your creative, authentic self in the face of a society trying to get you to conform especially in your career path. All about learning to ‘carpe diem’.
Fool on the Hill by Matt Ruff
The Broke Diaries by Angela Nissel. One of the funniest books I have ever read.
I am Charlotte Simmons and A Secret History
The Secret History. Both life and death at college ; )
The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides; Straight Man by Richard Russo; On Beauty by Zadie Smith.
LOVE On Beauty!
Autofocus by Lauren Gibaldi and The Marriage Plot we’re both good
