Hey, do you find scary books scary? Now that I’ve started to read horror, I don’t think it’s as scary as I initially expected. Maybe because it’s non-visual.

I agree. I’m rarely scared by books. The only one I’ve had to set aside is IT, and that was probably 10 years ago. The scene with Beverly in the bathroom freaked me out enough

I like murder mystery, suspense, and crime drama…but nothing sinister or ghostly that is in a scary realm. Make sense? I am fascinated by mediums, but don’t want a book about a medium getting a sinister message or possession or anything like that.

Liz Hoffman oh I see. I always think about ghosts and all that scary stuff when I hear the word medium.

@Anthony I didn’t read the book but I watched the film. I loved it. A few years ago I read Exorcist and I was like it’s ok, but wouldn’t dare to watch the movie. My imagination sucks and in this case, I don’t complain. ?

If you can find it, I highly recommend “Lilydale: The true story of the town that talks to the dead” by Christine Wicker. It’s about the rise of Spiritualism in the late 1800s and how the town came to be.

It’s still a very active Spiritualist community.

This comment isn’t going to help you much but maybe someone here will know what book I’m talking about. I read a book about a psychic that used to have abilities but lost them, and made money off faking it. The book was separated with a few characters, giving their point of view. Once the psychic met one of the other characters, she started to get her abilities back. I cannot remember the author or the name but I do know it was good. I’m sorry if this doesn’t help, but if I think of the name, I’ll reply here.

Ahhh!! It’s Leaving Time! It didn’t click that I had already read it until I did a search (I actually have it on my wish list to read). I read it a long time before I got in this group, and I didn’t realize the book everyone recommends is one in the same as the one I loved months and months ago!

I downloaded I’m Not Dead, I’m Different by Hollister Rand to my kindle last week. Ms. Rand is a medium and has written a book about children who have contacted her after their death to share their opinions.

Charlaine Harris has a fun series starting with Midnight,Texas. Not scary at all but a fun mystery read that has a great medium in it. It was made into a show I believe last year.
