A Marriage of Opposites (Alice Hoffman – beautiful and riveting historical fiction about the mother of Camille Pissarro) All the Light We Cannot See (achingly painful yet lovely romance within an epic tale)
Lila by Marilynn Robinson. A most unconventional romance, beautifully written. Warning for type A readers, it’s the 3rd book of a trilogy, but I think it could stand alone. I was quite satisfied with Wendell Berry’s Hannah Coulter, certainly not a traditional romance, but a love story all the same.
Renee Neuenswander I think she means someone who needs to read books in order. Type A usually means someone who has to do things specifically in order or how they’re “meant” to be done. They usually are the ones who have to finish books even if they don’t like them. (In my experience)
Hahaha I this instance I think it just refers to the fact that the recommended book is the third in the trilogy. If that wouldn’t bother you, then it might be a great choice!
If u want just a really “nice” book one that’ll make you go “oohhh” then ” ah” then ” noooo” then laugh , then this is it . Just a really lovely nice book!
84 Charing Cross Road, Helene Hanff Lost Paradise, Cees Noteboom The Good Soldier, Ford Maddox Ford The Magician of Lublin, Isaac Bashevis Singer Anna Karienina, Liev Tolstoy
Princess Bride. I love the movie, but the book is so good. It was written prior to the movie and goes into greater detail about each character. Has a number of wonderful scenes that couldn’t make it into the film.
Karen White I like literary fiction and steer away from “Romance” typically, but I really like her books. Also, Fortune Rocks by Anita Shreve is wonderful.
The Blue Star by Tony Earley, Ross Poldark by Winston Groom, The Reader by Bernhard Schlink, Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson, The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima. All are regular novels that have nice love stories running throughout them
