Heard of it. Is it any good?

It’s amazing. Couldn’t put it down. There’s two out so far and very very addictive

2
Angela

There’s possibly a long wait for the third though, not that they’re not good, but if you like a complete set you might want to hold off.

1
Emma

That’s true. I’m dying for the next one but still glad I read them.

Heres the description from Goodreads; I’d try to explain it but the story gets complicated!
A war fueled by the powers of dark sorcery is about to engulf the peaceful land of Osten Ard—for Prester John, the High King, lies dying. And with his death, the Storm King, the undead ruler of the elf-like Sithi, seizes the chance to regain his lost realm through a pact with the newly ascended king. Knowing the consequences of this bargain, the king’s younger brother joins with a small, scattered group of scholars, the League of the Scroll, to confront the true danger threatening Osten Ard.

Simon, a kitchen boy from the royal castle unknowingly apprenticed to a member of this League, will be sent on a quest that offers the only hope of salvation, a deadly riddle concerning long-lost swords of power. Compelled by fate and perilous magics, he must leave the only home he’s ever known and face enemies more terrifying than Osten Ard has ever seen, even as the land itself begins to die.

Read the eyre affair first, and it will make sense! Read them out of order and you get lost with all the references.

PATRICK ROTHFUSS!

I’ll try his books ?

0

I wouldn’t recommend a court of thorns and roses if you can’t do the sexual scenes! Just FYI. And throne of glass has a little in one of the books.

I’ve recommended this series to a good number or people over the years, and everyone of them has ended up liking it. It’s considered young adult, so its a great start for someone just getting into fantasy reading.

All of Tamora Pierce’s are good reads. 😀

It’s unfortunate that the films were never completed.

0

That’s true. The movie was visually great, the actors also amazing, but the story was changed not to “disturb” the church, and I think much was lost because of that. Still, I would have liked to see the series completed.

define fantasy — Knights? Wizards? Vampires? Personally, I think the bible is a fantasy story but I suspect that’s not quite what you have in mind.

Chronicles of NARNIA!!!!!!!!
If you’ve already read them, it’s time for a reread =D
Written in Red, by Anne Bishop,
The Golem and the Jinni, by Helene Wrecker
Shannon Hale and Gale Carson Levine both write good fantasy books.
Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl series.
The Last Unicorn, by Peter S. Beagle.
The Indian in the Cupboard, by Lynne Reid Banks.

Peter

Kim Stanley Robinson… Mars trilogy

0
Reply
Fay

I classify that as more sci fi.

0
Peter

why cannot it be both?

0
Fay

To me it just doesn’t fit the fantasy genre. Speculative as well as sci fi, but not fantasy.

0
Peter

fair enough

0
Peter

When it was written…. because we were a lifetime away from going to mars… I considered it fantasy.

0
Peter

Brendon Sanderson is twice the writer that Robert Jordan ever was…. I know that is going to upset a lot of people… but the best books of the series by a wide margin were written by Sanderson….. The early Jordan Books were okay…. By book three…. crap..

0
Fay

HG Wells wrote War of the Worlds and Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote about mars in the 19th century. I’d call that sci fi. To me fantasy has elves, dragons, magicians, some sort of magic in it. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.

The October Daye series by Seanan McGuire. They are Urban Fantasy and so well done with twists and turns you don’t expect and sometimes near heartbreak. She is an amazing writer (who also writes under the name Mira Grant, who has written the best ever zombie apocalypse series you will ever read. And I recommend it to ANYONE, even if you think you hate zombie apocalypse stories. The first three books are the Newsfeed trilogy.) Also almost anything by Charles deLint.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. About an assassin who was caught and was in salt mines for a year, and then the prince gives her an opportunity of freedom if he fights for her in a competition to be the King’s Champion. It’s honestly my favorite book series ever, and I haven’t read anything to top it. There’s a lot that goes into it
