You should definitely read both series but I would read The First Law first.

I read the dresden file first book and enjoyed it and havent returned for book two. That being said, i have devoured everything that Joe Abercrombie has written.

I’ve only read Butcher’s codex Alera and loved it. But if you’re going to read both I’d start with the one that has less then 15 books already 🙂
